Teacher Treat Bags

Hello friends and thank you ever so much for all the lovely comments on my previous post about the chocolate wrapper. So glad you guys appreciated it.

I made these last week for an order of just 2o treat bags.  I think, it was for a parent/teacher meeting for two primary school girls.

These were one of the simplest bags I made, they did not want any thing fancy like ribbons or twines !! I was so tempted to try out atleast “SOMETHING” but had to resist it for another assisgnment and I think, the whole project was nearly done in just under two hours !!

Here are the pics.

Chocolate bar wrapper.

Sharing here with you is a quick gift to one of my “Dars” friends. I really had such a good time making this one and I think, I’m going to make a few more of these for my sons teachers.

Oh yeah, I have been playing around with photo editing and its effects and gosh, I just love the results as clearly visible. Although they are rather immaturish !

Baby shower1

Hello ladies ! I hope everyone has been having a week as nice as I have or atleast kinda ! Well, to begin with, I am so glad to see the scores and scores of digi stamps on breast cancer and even more delighted so see so many inspirational cards being designed for this drive. Years back, I had read a book where the main life changing point in the story arises with the diagnosis of breast cancer and how the main character went thru the whole process and delimma of chemotheraphy and its sideeffects etc.  I know, having so much reading material around me and awareness, should be pushing me into getting my first mamogram done, but for whatever reason (maybe just worry ) I have been avoiding the appointment.

Last year was an exceptionally difficult one and the aftermath of what it bought with it, was also one of the reasons, I was delaying the date. But seeing so many daughters forcing their moms to get a mamo has prompted me too, to seek a gynae. Lets see, maybe somewhere in a fortnight.

Okey dokey, glad I got that off my chest, now that I made this commitment on my blog, I better very well, keep up with it, lest one of you asks me in a fortnight, what happened about my date with the gynae !

Here in Dubai, we have a huge mix of cultures and diverse nationalities co-existing together in harmony. Nobody really steps on anyones toes as far as religion or race is considered, except those who bring these pity notions with them from their own countries.  Already we have celebrations underway, for the national day celebrations, Festival of Eid early november, Diwali, the hindu celebration, Halloween’s around the corner and ofcourse Christmas. One of the reasons, why all these occasions play any significance in my household is coz with these occasions comes a huge demand for gift baskets, party favors, school favors and diwali gift baskets. This is the busiest part of the year for me, what with all these orders and delieveries !

Although I am already running short of time for delivering my goods, I will share samples with you’ll here. I hope some of them inspire you and some of them have you drooling over (lol)

This first post is about a baby shower, one of my friend’s collegue has requested make for her sister in law who is expecting a baby in a couple of weeks. She did not want the traditional colors of pink or blue and she has quite a thing for purses, so I decided to take it from there. I have made purses/bags using the main colors as orange and green. The little baby with the blankie is a digi stamp and so is the sentiment circle. Although there are scores of templates out there on the net, I prefer to use my own template which can be scaled up or down, subject to the requirement.

Please do leave a note/comment telling me how you found this baby shower purse. I’d really feel encouraged and appreciate it.

Eid Mubarak, Paper Piecing

Eid Greeting 3

And so finally, here we are at the third and final card that I designed for Eid. To know briefly about Eid, follow here.

About the card :-  Lots of elements in this one, included some border punches, two diecuts one of which is presented as a tag with the sentiment on it, brads, ribbons, and twine. The flower stamp is digital. The sentiment is by yours truly. Hope you guys like this one too.

These words below paper pieced words are arabic,  meaning:  Faith, knowledge, practise, prayer, deeds. They are a reminder of what we should hold onto to keep life simple, uncomplicated and a source of inspiration to others.

Art & Craft Ideas, Fairs & exhibitions in Dubai, T U T O R I A L S, Window display

Tips & Ideas for displaying products in a Craft fair or Window display.

For those of you who enjoy cultivating a hobby or business in crafts, the following ideas may come in handy when preparing for a craft fair or displaying your wares on a store window. No matter how beautiful your creation is, I cannot emphasis the importance of having a simple yet eye-catching display.

I wanted to share a few ways how everyday items as well as simple showpieces can be used inorder to display our craft stuff in a fair.

Ofcourse, for those of us who can afford them, nothing like the good’ol wire racks on wheels. They are a true blessing for all fair participants. However please note, it is important to know which rack can accomodate what size of objects. I have been known to have picked a magazine rack for my cards !!! (since that was the first time, I steped into a display store, I’ll just have to forgive myself for that silly but expensive mistake 😦  So yes, there are different sizes and its best to keep one of your items at hand when you are out shopping for these wire racks to know, which suits it best.

Here a just a few of those which I have used in several fairs :-

One of the most important tips would be to have things looking organized, making sure the table has a clean table dressing or skirting or a large piece of material which covers till the floor so that, any additional boxes or cartons etc can be hid underneath. Keep your items preferably at eye level.

I think this above wire rack was one of my most excellent investments. Not only becoz its on wheels but becoz it totally dismantles, (although the process is alittle painful to do so ~ but thats where hubby chips in. ) But also becoz there are several sizes of hangers that you get to place on these, which can accomodate different sizes of items, longer ones and larger ones too.

Again, I picked the above black rack mainly coz it was a triangle, meaning could hold on both sides which is exactly what I need.

This above wire hanger too, is excellent coz the items can be placed on both sides. It saves space and quite high, giving alot of area to hang larger items too.

For the on-top-of-the-table displays, here are a few suggestions :

There’s a good reason why I am called the Wicker Queen !!!  Naturally baskets are one of my favorites. I have over a 100 baskets in various designs, shapes, sizes and textures. For the huge heap of cards, I generally like to use the different kinds of baskets.  Although it is a good idea, to have  several sizes of baskets for different items or even to compartmentalize different occasion cards to make it easy to browse thru them.

A different type of wire basket :

My all-time-favorite table easel is perfect for hosting cards, frames and several pieces within those dimensions. I think, I have more than 30-40 of these and each one is used brilliantly when I am participating in a card-only fair.

Also another easel :

Ofcourse for the table top display, traditionally, I prefer to mount items over larger boxes going over eachother as a pyramid. Notice the use of several boxes to add space and height.

Also seen here is the jewellry hanger from Ikea which is serving the purpose of hanging double sided tape in my case :

I am sure, many of you, already have this kind of a dish display unit ! Well, get it out and use it if your participating in a craft fair.

Ofcourse, I havent spared the toast stand either !

And why should the microwave grills not be used to add height to my display :

This little table top, chinese room divider is actually a display stand for some exotic show piece, ofcourse I had something else in mind for it.

For the smaller items like beads, buttons and tiny embellishments, I prefered to stack them in these little compartments, I got from Daiso ~ the Japanese store.

Ikea is a great source of inspiration for me. There are several kitchen items that can be upcycled in a craft fair display. You just have to broaden your horizons when viewing them.

I hope and trust, you found these ideas creative and helpful. Please dont hold back and use innovative ways to best display your work of love. Why should creativity be limited to your canvases or cards only, why not be creative and systematic in displaying them too !! Remember, There’s a good reason why large stores spend huge sums of money, in hiring merchanizers just to portray/display their commodities in a most attractive way.

Banner Card, Eid Mubarak

Eid Greetings 2.

Dear friends, thank so much for all your lovely comments to my previous post on Eid Greetings1.  Truth be told, I have been so busy with several gift packaging orders and altered art projects that card making has just not been much focused upon. I go thru these “waves” when suddenly I get inspired to a certain craft and take to it like a fish to water ! Say for instance, last entire month, I have been designing party favors and gift baskets, then for months before that, I was so engrossed and enjoying altering plaques and before that, it was bookmarks and paper crafting !! Its a weird thing with me 😉  but I suppose, there must be “others” weird like me who also find a certain craft style so enchanting that they just have to try it and once they try it, they are hooked onto it !   So anyways, I think, the only greeting cards, I have made in a while are these three Eid greetings.

Alittle about the card, It is a simple yet elegant card with a bit of paper piecing for the “sentiment over the cupcakes, some diecuts/punches and a bunting on it. Needless to say, I love the pink pattern paper ~ Pink being my very favorite of colors !  Ofcourse the cupcakes are digital stamps while the sentiment is done by yours truly on microsoft word.  A little ribbon and we are off with a pretty card. I have actually stopped saying that I have distressed the edges becoz I dont think, I have done ANY projects WITHOUT distress ink in the past couple of years  !!!! I am virtually addict to it.  So please do share with me how you found my Eid Greeting card.

Here it is :

Eid Greetings 1

Hello friends, today I am sharing something you probably have not heard of. For those of you who are wondering what “Eid Mubarak” is, here’s a tiny explanation :-

Muslims follow the lunar calender and fast in the holy month of Ramadhan. The month could last for 29 or 30 days depending on the siting of the moon. When the new moon is seen, the following day is celebrated as Eid, which is the celebration for having been blessed with the holiest of all months, Ramadhan. As in all cultures and traditions, lots of sweet dishes are prepared and its a totally family oriented affair. Here in the middle east, exchanging of sweets amongst friends and collegues is practised, however for those over seas, cards are sent. This year, I was requested to design 3 Eid cards by Noor the coordinator for paperie designs which they wished to feature in their blog.

Here is the first card that I made.

It is an easel card and I am completely in love with the DP. It has the gorgeous vintage touch to it. And dont we already know, how crazy I am, about any shades of pink. The window is a digistamp and so is the oval sentiment. Plenty of diecuts used here.
