Gifts in Dubai.

Hello dear friends !

I’m an erratic blogger ūüôā¬† (But¬†you already know that, by now ūüėČ )¬† There have been times when, you could¬†read three¬†posts, back to back and then there are times, when you see me once in three months. In the blog-world, consistency is VERY IMPORTANT.¬†¬†I am yet to play by the book !

Over the past 11 years, I have been fortunate enough to have a beautiful relationship with any and all forms of art.

I did not restrict myself to water colors or decoupage ~ I am a restless eager soul, I have experienced and enjoyed every craft.

What started from card making has just made it way thru to DIY and home décor.

Sometimes I find myself going on a spin in a perplexed state¬†when ‘newbies’¬† ask me what I fancy most.

The past 5 months have been remarkably fantastic and have helped me, better define myself.

I cannot thank Almighty Allah swt enough for his grace.

November and December 2014~ were months dedicated to a dozen or more craft fairs. I love fairs and all the planning, preparation and exhaustion, that comes with it !

January 2015 ~ Gulf News published an article about me and my work !  I was beside myself.

January 2015 ~ We completed a 3-Day Art and Craft workshop.

February 2015 ~ Organic Café and Foods Supermarket, displayed my handmade greeting cards.

February 2015 ~ Aspen House Gifts, got the much needed boost it so anticipated, with several baby shower favors and wedding favors orders.

March 2015 РI was requested to be chief guest at the Arts and design Faculty of the American University of Dubai. It was an honor beyond words !

Over the years, I have been blessed to accomplish, all the creative adventures, I dive into, thanks to Allah swt and a lot of patience from my better half and boys. However, there are times, when I question myself, if I am, more of a mixed media artist, or a craft teacher or a carpenter, a card maker or a business woman or a DIY enthusiast. Perhaps, the past 5 months, have given me a glimpse of all who I am.

An amalgamation of all these endeavors.

Today, Let me share with you alittle about Aspen House Gifts.

Having a creative background gives me an edge in designing, understanding color statements, and packaging and having been in Dubai for 22 years, procuring my supplies is relatively easier for me.

Three of the key principles, I adopted from the hospitality industry, for over a decade are, professional attitude, punctuality and exemplary presentation.

Fairs & exhibitions in Dubai

Back after a break.

Hello friends. Am baaaaaaaaack !

I know I have been missing in action out here¬†and the good news is that “its for a good reason”

The year has started off, very well but very busily for me.¬† I was lucky enough to have landed a large of greeting cards¬†for¬†¬†a highly reputed leisure company. Finally, not only are my cards going to adorn the display racks here in Dubai but will also be flaunted in Qatar and Kuwait. I am absolutely thrilled¬†but as I have now realized, its really aloooooot of hardwork. Designing a card is pure a joy but replicating and multiplying ¬†the same into 20 of them design,¬†can really be, rather nerve recking ! This was a large order and I’m almost 90% thru with them. The experince has been nothing short of sheer exasperation. Needless to say, Sam and the boys have borne the brunt of it and they bore it,¬† oh so gracefully.

I have quite a few exciting news to share with you’ll but today, I’ll share a few pictures of my order.

With all these cards, packaging, etc¬† ~ the studio is just going to burst from every nook and corner ! There are so many huge piles of my craft goodies scattered all over that tiny room, that one has to jump over things at some places inorder to reach¬†somewhere ¬†! Yep ~ ”¬†all ”¬†the organization skills went straight out the window once I got started with my projects. I know I have hours and hours of organization to get back to in that room, but all in its time ~ for now, I’ve still got a last lot to complete. But I’m going to take photos of how the studio looks now and I keep some pics of how it will look, once I have cleared up some of the mess. And I’ll post that too later on.¬†

For those of you who had been visiting and leaving me personal messages of  concern, hopeand inspiration, thank you ever so much.  It really made me feel so loved and thought of ~ and it feels absolutely great being back !

For now, good bye and thank you for visiting me today ūüôā and hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Eid Mubarak, Paper Piecing

Eid Greeting 3

And so finally, here we are at the third and final card that I designed for Eid. To know briefly about Eid, follow here.

About the card :-  Lots of elements in this one, included some border punches, two diecuts one of which is presented as a tag with the sentiment on it, brads, ribbons, and twine. The flower stamp is digital. The sentiment is by yours truly. Hope you guys like this one too.

These words below paper pieced words are arabic,  meaning:  Faith, knowledge, practise, prayer, deeds. They are a reminder of what we should hold onto to keep life simple, uncomplicated and a source of inspiration to others.

I am entering this card in the following card challenges :-

Thank you for visiting me today. I hope you will return again. Till then, stay safe and keep having fun with creativity !

Challenges, Different Card Folds, Easel Card, Eid Mubarak

Eid Greetings 1

Hello friends, today I am sharing something you probably have not heard of. For those of you who are wondering what “Eid Mubarak” is, here’s¬†a tiny explanation :-

Muslims follow the lunar calender and fast in the holy month of Ramadhan. The month could last for 29 or 30 days depending on the siting of the moon. When the new moon is seen, the following day is celebrated as Eid, which is the celebration for having been blessed with the holiest of all months, Ramadhan. As in all cultures and traditions, lots of sweet dishes are prepared and its a totally family oriented affair. Here in the middle east, exchanging of sweets amongst friends and collegues is practised, however for those over seas, cards are sent. This year, I was requested to design 3 Eid cards by Noor the coordinator for paperie designs which they wished to feature in their blog.

Here is the first card that I made.

It is an easel card and I am completely in love with the DP. It has the gorgeous vintage touch to it. And dont we already know, how crazy I am, about any shades of pink. The window is a digistamp and so is the oval sentiment. Plenty of diecuts used here.

Teacher’s Gift Box

Hello Everybody.

Thank you all very much for the lovely¬†comments you guys left for my previous project. I’m so glad you guys liked the “Bake, Eat, love” placard.

Last Thursday, when I was returning from the hospital, I picked up some Mini Pizza’s from one of the pizza shops, close to the hospital. That I managed to eat one entire pizza all by myself is not what this post is all¬†about ūüôā !!!!¬† But about the destiny of that pizza box. Becoz it was in such a good condition, I just could’nt¬†let it go to waste, now could I ?

So any ways, I needed an appealing box to carry the 2 cards, and the  table calender gift that Buddy has made for his teacher, Mrs Barker.  This box is an ideal container for to serve that purpose. I have covered it in pieces and decorated it, in and out. Love the rich swirly red with gold dp. Here are some of the elements used :

  • Embossed
  • Die cut nestabilities
  • 4 blue brads
  • layered with a check background dp.
  • Die cut alphabets
  • Large Felt flowers.(3flowers) and a diecut flower too.
  • Distressing especially the edges of the box.

Altering this box took just a couple of hours, becoz I did not have all the colors figured out initially, but I really had fun putting it all together.

Hope you like it too. Taddaa, here it is .. . …. … … .. …

Altered Photo Frame, Altered Wall hanging

Altered Frame Project.

Hello friends, I am back from my Umrah in Saudi Arabia. And what a fantastically enlightening pilgrimage it was ! I have the entire story in my other blog, so if your interested, please pop over to view the pictures and read about the short but this amazing trip. (I will be posting it in a day or two.)

Before I left last wednesday, I had completed a project of altering a picture frame into something pleasing. This frame had been sitting in the large ikea bucket for like . . . . forever, until I noticed alittle of dressing up could do it some good. I have also kept the before and after pictures too.

Becoz there is spring in the air and flowers blossoming all over, I decided to embellish this frame with what the flowers attract the most ~ butterflies obviously ! The altered frame has loads of texture with different papers used to punch out butterflies from. Ofcourse I have used the butterfly punch. A matt kraft color for the background against all the bright and loud colors of the butterflies. And again, a very pale floral green is cut to fit a frame behind the images. For whatever reason for me, butterflies symbolize peace, fluttering feelings and softness.  I hope and trust, you guys are going to like the look of this frame. Here it is :

I’d like to enter this project into the following challenges :

I do hope you guys leave me some comments to know how you felt about this creative frame. I know alot of women, dont really like butterflies, but I do. And almost all children that I know of, love butterflies. So I am hoping, you too will find them attractive in this frame.

Please remember, a comment can be¬†the difference between starting the day on a good note or a grumpy one ūüôā (atleast in my case !)

Thank you so much for stopping by and spending some time viewing my projects here. Hope you like them and will return again.

C ya !

Alter Art, Altered Wall hanging, Challenges, Friendship cards, Love messages ~ cards, Mother, Recyling, Reuse, Reduce., Trash to Treasure

Right here for you.. .. .. .. wall hanging

This too, is from the trash to wall hanging series. It is the white board which was found dumped on the construction site. You may have to read my post, ” Mother ~ Wall hanging” , to get the full story on it. In short, it is recycled sheets that I have dressed up.

A¬†very simple idea and concept is used. Have always liked the idea of using a fish bowl, although I dont approve of an animals or birds being caged or living in an aquarium ūüė¶¬† ~~¬†Thats just not their place. Again, thats us, humans being selfish and self centered.

Such strong shades of blue and Orange are not exactly what I am comfortable with, but sometimes, when you actually work with it, somehow they look good when placed together. Both are handmade papers. The fishes are fabric. Some glitter for the bubbles, 3 brown buttons knotted with a yellow twine,  a simple but comforting sentiment, which is a digi stamp. The board is held up by  a satin orangish ribbon. I have made a deliberate effort at avoiding any flowery embellishments, becoz as always, I prefer the less-cluttered look.  Simplicity is always more striking and attractive.

Ladies, I would really like to take a moment here, to thank you all for all those loving comments that you leave behind for me. They are so encouraging. WOULD you believe, I feel, more inspired, to try out more, to try out different, to try out my best, becoz of those heartfelt comments. Thank you ladies. It means alot.
